Antonia and Wolfgang and their children Emanuel and Franziska. We call ourselves the SCHWANEN. The SCHWANEN is the epitome of daily life and work for us. It has been family owned for 5 generations. We are very proud of that!
NEXT STEPS IN THE
SCHWANEN STORY
My mother Antonia, the wild women and my father Wolfgang, the good soul of the house, will be taking a step back in the future and undertake new roles in the background. Head Chef Franziska Hiller, all other employees and I as host accept the challenge and will power ahead – just as we do in the SCHWANEN.
My ancestors also went full speed: the Bregenzerwald Käsgrafen, from whom we Moosbruggers descend. The cheese counts were the Moosbrugger brothers – Gallus, Josef Ambros and Leopold. They really stirred up the Bregenzerwald in the 19th century. From Schnepfau, they traded cheese throughout the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. On their return journeys, the cheese merchants brought back groceries, fabrics, spices and Italian wine for the SCHWANEN. The empire extended to Milan, where the cheese counts imported cheese and ran a factory. There was even a box at La Scala in Milan.
Only a dedicated commitment to contemporary architectural qualities beyond clichés can promise authentic solutions with a future.
Hermann Kaufmann, architect
The SCHWANEN has an eventful history behind it! When I see the old photos of this typical country inn with a farm, I wish we could have it back. Since then it hasn’t always been so great. In the 1960’s the house was turned into a rustic block, which had nothing to do with the traditions of Bizau.
When my parents undertook necessary renovations in 2009, we had the chance to redesign the hotel with Hermann Kaufmann, the hotel’s architect, and to re-integrate it into the language of the local surroundings, as he very aptly puts it. The design is deliberately restrained and is dominated by calm surfaces of natural and elegantly finished silver fir as well as beds and floors of oiled oak. I feel really at home in the SCHWANEN and am looking forward to developing this project further.
I share with you the new, important, interesting and good things about the Schwanen 2 or 3 times a year in my newsletter. We read each other!
